From the Artist:

I am interested in the performative aspect of visual art. My work is very much influenced by the narrative drama latent in Old Masters paintings, namely the works of Titian, Caravaggio and Rembrandt. Storytelling is very important to me -- embedded in many of my works are fairy tales, biblical myths, and historical dramas. Even when painting something as static as a live-model, I attempt to imbue each painting with movement and tension, creating the impression of a narrative within the surrounding empty space.

I believe that space and form are extremely important elements of dramatic tension. As such, I attempt to use both to suggest the fluid movement of time. I was trained in oils but have recently been experimenting with encaustic and mural painting. The large scale of murals reminds me of set design in that it alters the disposition of an entire environment. Though I no longer do much theater work, I still look at the world in a theatrical way: as a space to be transformed, as a story waiting to be told.

My current interest in library science derives from my desire to communicate with the public. One of my favorite things about the process of creating art is research. As a librarian I hope to aid people in doing their own research, opening their eyes to new ways of seeing. Such, of course, has always been the aspiration of my art.
