Biography

Giovanni Tempesta has been a professor of Italian Language and Culture at Stanford University since 1983. He was born and raised in Italy, where he started writing poetry at the age of 14. He moved to California in 1972. He has just published a collection of original poems (originally written in Italian but presented in both Italian and English translation) entitled Waters, Muddy and Clear. Tempesta has previously published The Cremation of Sam McGee and Other Verses by Robert Service, an Italian Translation. He currently resides in Northern California, though he wishes to return one day to Lucca, as it remains the city closest to his heart.

Tempesta intends his next publication to be a collection of short stories, presented in both Italian and English translation. Tempesta’s two books are available for purchase on Amazon:
